There are two species of elephant: African and Asian. The ears of African elephants are much larger and are described as being shaped like the African continent. African elephants have two ‘fingers’ at the tip of their trunks They can communicate through body language, touch and scent.
They have a quiet confidence and power about them, and while they could dominate, they prefer to be peaceful and calm. An elephant never forgets - hence the saying 'elephants never forget'. They are emotional creatures. Female elephants are called Cows. Elephants make friends, bury the dead, travel for 'funerals', speak to each other, and show extreme intelligence.
